Concord Elementary School in Darien, IL.

On Friday, students, faculty, and staff of Concord School in Darien will join together to sing about the United States of America, reflect on what it means to be patriotic, and remember the brave men and women who have helped to protect and currently protect the country’s freedom.

In what has become an annual tradition, Concord School will be holding its annual assembly of the new school year, the “Patriotic Remembrance Assembly.”

This assembly, which is in its 11th year, has evolved throughout the years. The “Patriotic Remembrance Assembly” includes a moment of silence in addition to the singing of many songs which inspire, illustrate, and teach about the meaning of patriotism, respect for those who have fought to protect our country, and reflection on the heroes who have helped to shape the history of the United States of America.

Concord students, dressed in red, white, and blue, will sing “The Star Spangled Banner”, “You’re a Grand Old Flag”, “America”, “We, the Children of America” which includes (“America the Beautiful”),  “This Land is Your Land” (where the faculty and staff sing the verses), “Celebrate America” and “Americans All.  The “Allegiance Rap” will be lead by the Concord Junior Chorus.

Students will also perform “The Constitution Rap” in honor of “Constitution Day” (September 17).

Concord music teacher, Angela Zurawski, who directs the assembly each year, said she thinks that it is a wonderful opportunity and important for students to learn many of the patriotic songs that have helped to shape and define their country.
