Hinsdale Central football suffered its first loss of the season Friday, but it might have been the team's best performance.
After giving No. 4 Glenbard West all it could handle in a 28-23 loss, the Red Devils (3-1) jumped five spots to No. 15 in the latest Chicago Tribune rankings put together by Mike Helfgot and released Saturday night.
Hinsdale Central had been ranked No. 20 by Hefgot for the last three weeks.
The Red Devils also climbed in Mike Clark's Chicago Sun-Times rankings, from No. 12 last week to No. 11 this week.

Senior quarterback Brian Owens completed 21 of 34 passes in Friday night's game for 286 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The Red Devils went up 10-0 in the first quarter and led 17-7 at halftime.
Glenbard West rallied off three straight touchdowns in the second half to take the lead, but Hinsdale Central did not quit, and had a chance to win the game in the final minutes before the offense's last drive stalled in Hilltopper territory.
The Red Devils have another big game Friday on the road against rival Lyons Township, who shut out Downers North over the weekend to get to 2-2.
