Due to the storms expected today, Native American Day at Concord Elementary has been rescheduled to Monday

Native American Day will have Concord first-graders involved in a variety of activities that allow them to explore and learn about Native American culture and history. A Native American named Jon Jordan will be meeting with the students to talk about his culture and share stories.

One of the highlights of the day will be a full-sized teepee set up outside for students to explore. The special display is one reason administrators thought it would be best to wait until Monday to hold the events, so students could get the full effect of the outdoor setup.

"It is supposed to be stormy all day [Friday]—not good teepee weather!" said Concord Elementary spokesperson Audrey Vaci about the decision to reschedule.

Students will move through four rotations on Monday:

  • The teepee in the Concord Elementary parking lot
  • A Native American art station
  • A Native American dance
  • A Native American literacy session

Although students will have to wait until Monday to celebrate Native American Day, readers can get a sneak peek of what the kids will be up to with these photos from last year.
