The West Suburban Humane Society will host a "kitten shower" Saturday to celebrate its newly renovated open-air cattery and a recent influx of kittens.
The shower will be held from 5 p.m. to p.m. at the Downers Grove shelter, 1901 W. Ogden Ave. The event will feature games, prizes, mocktails, food and dozens of kittens available for adoption.
During the month of August, all cat and kitten adoptions are $50 off. An additional $25 discount will be offered during the kitten shower.
All cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. The kittens come with a collar and ID tag, as well as a temporary cat carrier.
Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. The shelter is in need of kitten chow (Purina), any canned adult or kitten food, and litter (scoopable or clay).
The open-air shelter opened in November 2011, and can hold up to 30 cats. The cats are able to live freely in the room, which includes a couch, several cat beds, shelves and ramps.
Because the new cattery allows room for more cats and kittens than in years past, the shelter has seen a spike in adoptions, according to volunteers.
