A Darien man has been charged with first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping after DuPage County officials said he killed one person and then kidnapped a woman at knifepoint Friday.
Joseph Spitalli, 34, of 7529 Country Lane in Darien, was taken into custody Sunday and charged with murder in the stabbing death of 31-year-old Teymur Huseynli. Spitalli was also charged with aggravated kidnapping after officials said he kidnapped Huseynli's girlfriend.
Darien police responded at 12:25 a.m. Friday to a battery call on Wildwood Court in Darien, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's press release. They found Huseynli dead on the lawn of an apparent knife wound.
Officials aren't releasing any other information at this time. Spitalli is scheduled to appear in DuPage County bond court Monday morning at 8 a.m.
“I would like to thank the Darien Police Department as well as the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office for their outstanding work on this case,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. “Thanks to their efforts, Mr. Spitalli was taken into custody before anyone else was hurt.”
